Sleep smarter and better

Sleep better and smarterAnyone who has trouble sleeping knows that "just relax" is easier said than done. But do-it-yourself relaxation practices may help you prepare for rest, and put worries or discomfort behind you. This easy technique works best when done right before bed, in a quiet, calming environment.

The Rewind Technique is a safe and highly effective method for releasing stress and acquiring a different perspective on the daily events. Used on a regular base, it will help you relax and enjoy a deep, restful sleep. It takes very little time and can be done while lying in the bed, just before you go to sleep.

  • It involves a quick mental replay of the events of the day and you can do it by starting at the beginning of the day until you reach the end, or by starting at the end of your day until you reach the beginning of the day.

In this latter scenario, you don’t have to have to imagine everything moving backwards as if you’re rewinding a video. Just start with the last event before bedtime and review it, then proceed to the event prior to that one and review it, and so forth.

  • You can also keep a daily event diary, a journal where you can keep track of the events that have a significant impact on your state of mind.

As you mentally replay the day’s events, you don’t need to recall every little detail or replay every action or every conversation in a minute-by-minute recount of the day. The ideea is to review each event calmly and objectively and then move on to the next event. The entire process should take only a few minutes.

Also keep in mind the point is not to get caught up in regret about how the day went but instead to simply acknowledge each event that occurred throughout the day and release it. Don’t get stuck replaying a situation over and over in your mind and thinking of all the things you could have done differently.

As you replay your day, let go of any mental attachment, anxiety, or concern about the events. The goal is to perform a quick review of your day so you don’t spend the night wasting your energy, dwelling on the “should haves” and “could haves”. If you clear your thoughts out of unnecessary worries, preocuppations, anxieties, you will be able to  sleep deeply and peacefully.

Use this time to relax your body as well. As you mentally replay the day, check your body for any tension associated with the memory of the events. Consciously release the tension and relax your body. The more you physically relax, the more you can mentally relax. In addition, you can use our special designed audio meditation Good Night Sleep for enhancing deep relaxation and overcoming daytime fatigue.

I’m a clinical psychologist and so far I’ve been using the Rewind Technique, along with other therapeutic interventions for treating phobias and other traumatic stress disorders. Great results, easy to use and effective. This version here can be carried out by ANYONE..
